The Portovelo-Zaruma mining camp, an area located in the Cantons of Zaruma and Portovelo Province of El Oro, Southern Ecuador, is home to the Global Mining Minera and Mimopi Concession projects. Situated about 175 kilometers south and 60 kilometers southeast of the major Pacific ports of Guayaquil and Machala, respectively, the projects lay on the western slope of the Andes Mountains, part of the Western Cordillera which runs the length of the west coast of North and South America. The Cordillera has been a prolific producer for Gold, Silver, copper and other metals for centuries.
